SCBWI SoCal Authors & Illustrators at the LA Festival of Books 2026
The LA Times Festival of Books 2026 is almost here, and SCBWI Southern California is bringing together an incredible lineup of children’s book authors and illustrators for a full weekend of storytelling, book signings, and community. I’m so excited to be attending for the first time with my picture book, Bea’s Balikbayan Box of Treasures. If you’re attending the Los Angeles Festival of Books at USC (April 18–19, 2026), be sure to stop by Booth 826 in the Green Zone, where a rotating group of SCBWI SoCal creators will be signing books and meeting readers throughout the weekend. SCBWI Summer Conference 2013 – What I’ve gained and why you should go.
The SCBWI LA Summer Conference is only one week away! I’m so excited. I’ve been packing for a week already. Next step — meal planning! I have food allergies. Eating away from home can be difficult. And on top of that, hotel food can get pricey. There are a few spots still open for this life-changing conference extravaganza. Don’t delay! Register today. (Sorry for the rhyme. Couldn’t help it.) I didn’t know anyone. I went online seeking an SCBWI…

Here are a few quotes from his keynote “Ripples in the Pond: Why What We Do Matters…and Matters…and Continues to Matter”: “Start ripples throughout the world” and “You cannot know how you’ve affected the world; make ripples anyway.” Powerful words, right? Every time I hear them, I my heart melts. I threw my tiny rock in the pond in 2010. That’s when I attended my first ever writing conference, the Central Coast Writing Conference at Cuesta College. I met Children’s Book Author, Merrily Kutner, who told our class that the best thing we…

I’ve joined SCBWI!
At the recommendation of several fellow writing friends and Children’s book author Merrily Kutner I joined the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators in October 2010. As I am not yet a Published Author I am currently an Associate Member. Here is a link to my profile page if you’d like to take a peek! I cannot express to you how invaluable this organization has been for me thus far. The bulletins are jam-packed with information ~ inspirational stories, online resources, contests, workshops, and much more. When I read the March/April 2011 issue I was more inspired to write that I had been in some time. Ideas that had been…
