Hi! I’m Christine Alemshah, children’s author of Bea’s Balikbayan Box of Treasures. I offer live, interactive author visits that get elementary students reading, singing, imagining, and creating. Choose from two 30-minute virtual programs designed for grades K–6. Limited in-person visits are also available for local schools and libraries.

Songs & Storytime
Grades K–3 | 30 minutes
Join me for an interactive read-aloud of Bea’s Balikbayan Box of Treasures featuring songs, storytelling, and student participation.
Together, we’ll explore family, Filipino culture, traditions, imagination, and the ways stories can connect us even across great distances.
Includes time for student questions and interactive classroom guide for use after the visit ends to extend learning time.
How to Write a Picture Book
Grades 4–6 | 30 minutes
Go behind the scenes of picture-book creation!
Students will discover how to develop story ideas, explore picture book structure, learn about writing and revision, and see how a manuscript becomes a published picture book.
Includes a “create your own picture book dummy” demonstration, student Q&A, and interactive classroom guide for use after the visit ends to extend learning time.

Each session is 30 minutes. Schools may schedule up to three sessions on the same day, making it easy to offer programs to multiple grade levels or groups.

Christine visited our middle school’s Manga Club in the spring of 2026 and brought several children’s books of different styles, including her own, to share with the students. She walked the group through the process of writing a picture book and the many steps involved in bringing one to publication, then gave each student construction paper and plain paper to fold and staple into a book of their own. Some students used the workshop to develop stories they had already been working on, while others took the chance to showcase their artwork. It was a wonderful, hands-on introduction to bookmaking, and the students left with a sense of what it takes to turn an idea into a finished book.
